How to Report Racism in the Office
Racism within office settings can cause feelings of discomfort, isolation or even abuse and bullying. Although you may not be the subject of racism, you should always be proactive in how you respond to unacceptable situations within the workplace. This helps to ensure that the situation does not get worse and can create a better working environment. Fortunately, reporting racist behavior can be straightforward.

Read your company's written policy regarding racism within the workplace. This policy will tell you who to contact regarding the situation. If no policy exists, you will need to contact the supervisors within the organization.

Write an account about what happened. Be specific and give as much information as you can, including when the event occurred and which employees were present to witness it.

Send the written account to your supervisor and the Human Resources Department. If no written policy exists about workplace racism, send your written account to other individuals who you feel should be informed.

Continue to write accounts of other incidents, if racism continues. Depending on the severity of the situation and the laws in your area regarding racial discrimination, you may feel it is necessary to contact the local authorities.
