How to Measure Perpendicularly in AutoCAD

There are many ways to measure distances in AutoCAD, and some of them are not as reliable as others. END point-to-END point measurements are the most accurate. Measuring perpendicularly is an effective way to measure from one line to another, and it helps you to measure angles as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Type DIST into the command line.

    • 2

Type END or MID, depending on whether you want to measure from the endpoint or the midpoint of the line. Press Enter. Left-click on the endpoint (or midpoint) from which to measure.

    • 3

Type PER and press Enter. Left-click on the endpoint (or midpoint) to measure to. The distance will show as a number in the command line.

Tips & Warnings

  • Measuring perpendicularly is not entirely reliable. It is easy to click on the wrong OSNAP, giving you a false distance.
