How to Delete a PIF Shortcut

A program information file (PIF) is created when a shortcut for a program is created. A shortcut is a way to quickly and easily access a file or program. When installing a program, you can create a shortcut that appears on the desktop. Any shortcut icon on the desktop has a small arrow in the corner pointing upwards. After removing or uninstalling a program, there is no longer a need for the shortcut. Removing the PIF shortcut takes just a minute to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the desktop of the computer.

    • 2

Look for the program shortcut icon that you want to remove.

    • 3

Right-click on the icon. Wait for a drop-down menu to appear.

    • 4

Scroll down to "Delete" and click on this option. A few seconds later, the shortcut disappears from the desktop.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you remove the PIF shortcut icon for a program, you only remove the shortcut. The underlying program is still on the computer.
