Task Scheduler can return your computer from sleep or hibernation mode.

Windows hibernation mode can be useful for storing your computer's state for quick access while saving energy. If you want to bring a hibernating computer back to life at a specified time, you can set up a task that executes at that time each day. Once you create the task, you must edit the task's properties to allow the task to run while the system is in power-saving mode.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the "Windows" logo key and press "R" to open a run command box.

    • 2

Type "taskschd.msc" into the box and press "Enter" to open the Windows Task Scheduler.

    • 3

Click the "Create Basic Task" link on the right side of the program window to initiate the Task Wizard.

    • 4

Type a name and description for your task, then click the "Next" button.

    • 5

Click the radio button next to the trigger that activates your task. If you want to bring the computer out of hibernation at a certain time each day, click "Daily" and then click "Next" to continue.

    • 6

Type the time that you want the task to initiate into the "Start" field.

    • 7

Type the number of days you want to wait before the task initiates again into the "Recur every" field.

    • 8

Click the radio button next to the action that you want your computer to take at the specified time. You can have the computer start a program, send an email or display an onscreen message. Click "Next" to continue.

    • 9

Click to select the program that you want to start, or type the message that you want to send or display in the next window. Click "Next" to continue.

    • 10

Check the box next to "Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish" and then click the "Finish" button.
