How to Extract Oats
Oat extracts, and other grain extracts, such as malt, are added to food products to enhance their color, flavor and sweetness. Oat extract can also be useful in adding texture to a food product. Oat extract is created as a liquid from a process that begins with the combination of oat flour and water. Oats are a nutritious, high-fiber grain that, when processed into an extract, can be used to improve the nutritional value of a food product or to improve the moisturizing effects of a skin care product. Things You'll Need
- Oat flour
- Water
- Pot and stove
- Centrifuge
- Small bottle with eyedropper top

Combine one cup of oat flour with three or more tablespoons of filtered water in a small pot until you achieve a substance that is thick and gummy.

Heat the mixture on the stove until it boils, stirring constantly. Continue heating and stirring for 20 minutes to allow the starches in the oat flour mixture to turn into sugars. Remove from heat.

Pour the mixture into a centrifuge and spin until a dark brown liquid drips down into the holding area, having been separated from undesirable by-products by the centrifuge. Pour the dark brown liquid into a small bottle with an eyedropper top that can be used to administer the oat extract as an additive to homemade food and skin care products.
