How to Make Wine Keepers

How to Make Wine Keepers thumbnail
Personalized wine bottle keepers are an alternative to commercial stoppers.

In the past, dinner guests would use the fact that the wine would go to waste as an excuse to polish off a bottle. However, there are now several ways to preserve your wine after it has been opened. You can buy different versions of a wine vacuum that can reseal your wine until you are ready for another glass. These devises are unfortunately hard to build on your own because they contain several specialty pieces. Besides the vacuum, there is one other option for perfectly preserving your wine. You can use a can of nitrogen spray to turn your wine cork into a wine keeper by displacing oxygen within the bottle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a can of nitrogen spray. You can typically find this product at specialty liquor store or on-line.

    • 2

Attach the straw included with the can of nitrogen to the end of the spray nozzle.

    • 3

Insert the straw halfway down the neck of the bottle.

    • 4

Rest the original cork on top of the wine bottle so that the bottle can be resealed immediately after the oxygen has been displaced.

    • 5

Press the button on the can to release the nitrogen for a two-second increment and then press the button four more times to release nitrogen in half-second increments.

    • 6

Press the cork back into the bottleneck as quickly as possible to prevent more oxygen from entering the wine bottle.
