Use dried milkweed seed pods to make angel ornaments.

If you've ever looked at a milkweed pod and saw a pair of angel's wings, you'll enjoy this craft -- making whimsical angel ornaments from the dried pods. Start by going on a search for perfectly shaped milkweed pods in the autumn, when the fluffy seedlings have blown away. You can also purchase dried milkweed pods for crafting at some floral shops, craft stores and online. Leave your milkweed pod angels natural or paint them with acrylic paint.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Split the milkweed pod in half where it opens, or use two pod halves if you're using purchased pods.

    • 2

Lay one pod half on your work surface, flat side down. This will be the angel's robe.

    • 3

Cut the other pod up the center, starting from the pointed end and leaving about 1 1/2 inches from the top uncut for lowered wings. Cut the pod in half completely to make two wings pointing upward.

    • 4

Hot-glue the wings to the back of the half-pod body.

    • 5

Place the acorn over the uncut pod half for a head and hot-glue in place. Use straw or dried grass to make hair and arms and hot-glue these to the head and body.

    • 6

Tie a thin ribbon into a loop and hot-glue it to the angel below the back of the head.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to pain your angel, use acrylic paint.

  • Hot glue guns should be used by adults only.
