How to Replace a Maytag Neptune Drum

      Unplug the Maytag Neptune dryer power cord.

      Open the dryer door. Remove the screws around the edges of the inside of the door. Close the dryer door.

      Pull the front panel up and away from the dryer to disengage it. Set the front panel aside.

      Detach the wire connector leading to the door switch. Remove the screws connecting the shroud to the sides of the dryer cabinet. The shroud is a rectangular metal object in front of the drum.

      Lift the shroud out of the dryer. Move the idler pulley toward the left. Remove the belt from around the drum and pulleys.

      Lift the drum out of the dryer. Position the new drum where the old drum was. Route the belt around the drum and pulleys. Move the idler pulley arm toward the right to tighten the belt.

      Replace the shroud. Install the screws that hold the shroud to the cabinet. Push the door switch connector into its socket.

      Replace the front panel. Open the dryer door. Replace the screws along the inside door edge.
