How to Decorate a Wildlife Cake

Make a cake with a wildlife theme for kids who love the outdoors.

A wildlife party can be a great theme for a young boy or girl's birthday. To complete the decor, a cake decorated in a wildlife motif is the perfect way to get creative. You can use a rainforest or African safari theme or even top your cake to look like wildlife from your own backyard. Let the birthday boy or girl help with choosing the decorations and making the cake to add to the fun.

Things You'll Need

• Cake mix or the cake recipe of your choice
• White frosting
• Green food coloring
• Blue food coloring
• Gummy fish
• Plastic trees (non-toxic)
• Plastic animals or bugs (non-toxic)

Instructions

1. 

   The birthday boy or girl help can help you bake their cake.

   Bake a cake using pre-packaged cake mix or the cake recipe of your choice. A chocolate cake works great for simulating dirt, but you can use any cake flavor.

2. 

   Use green frosting to simulate grass on your wildlife cake.

   Combine white icing with green food coloring and frost the cake. Make sure that the cake has had time to cool properly.

3. 

   Create a stream running through your cake by adding blue frosting.

   Add blue food coloring to the remaining frosting and spread it over a section of the cake to simulate a lake or stream. Add gummy fish to the stream.

4. 

   Top your cake with little plastic trees that match your wildlife theme.

   Add plastic trees and bushes to the cake. Use trees that match the type of wildlife theme you're creating, such as palm trees for a rainforest, or pine trees for a forest theme.

   Toy animals add a whimsical touch to your wildlife-themed cake.

   Decorate the cake with plastic animals.Try to match the animal with the habitat of your theme. Add a lion to your safari cake, a monkey to your rainforest cake or a bear to your forest cake.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also decorate cupcakes with their own plastic animal or tree. Let the kids take them home as a fun party favor.

• Make sure that all plastic toys used to decorate the cake are non-toxic and do not pose a choking hazard.
