How to Crochet a Stole for a Child
A stole is an ideal crochet project to make for a child. It can be worn over a lightweight dress in warm weather or under a coat in colder seasons, making it a year-round accessory. A stole is not as long as a scarf, so it doesn't pose a safety risk for small children --- toddlers and babies should not wear long scarves because of the risk of accidental strangulation. A stole is also an excellent way to use up a small amount of yarn; its small stature also makes it a very good crochet project for a beginner.

Tips & Warnings
Use a machine-washable yarn to make a child-sized stole; it will be easier to care for.
If you don't have enough of a single color yarn, you can make a striped stole by changing colors every few rows.
Don't use a scratchy yarn to make your stole if it will be worn next to the skin.
