How to Make Pig Waterers
Water is the number one requirement for healthy, growing pigs. Getting pigs the proper amount of water can be a problem as they tend to turn over and destroy buckets and troughs. This perplexing problem can be solved by purchasing a few items from your local hardware and farm supply store to create your own pig waterer.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic Barrel
- Drill and ½" bit
- ½" O Ring
- ½" flat washer
- ½" Brass fitting
- Stainless steel nipple drinker
- Permanent Marker

Mark the location for the first nipple on the plastic barrel. It should be approximately 4" or more from the ground.

Use the drill and ½" bit to drill a hole in the barrel.

Press a stainless steel nipple drinker through the hole. It may be necessary to twist nipple to get it to go through the barrel.

Place the O ring, flat washer and brass fitting on the threaded end of nipple drinker and tighten.

Repeat the procedure until you have installed as many nipples as desired.

Tips & Warnings
Remove all plastic shavings that result from drilling before filling barrel with water.
Locate barrel close to a fence that is short enough to reach over, remove top and fill tank without entering pig pen.
Pigs often clog nipples so they should be checked regularly to ensure they are working properly.
