Several methods can be used to keep a browsing history private.

The information age has made public many actions that were once considered private. With the growth of spyware and logging technology, something as simple as your browsing habits can be monitored by others without your knowledge. Many computer users want to keep their sessions private to avoid marketing pitches, for security and to avoid other invasions of privacy.

Instructions

Delete your browsing history. Every major web browser has a history deletion option in its menu bar. Whether you wish to delete only the current session or everything looked at, several options allow browser history removal. Most major browsers have the delete history option under the "Tools" option of the menu bar. The menu provides a box that can be checked to delete all browsing history every time the browser is closed. "Delete All History" is another option. Or select the "History" button on the top toolbar and proceed to "Show All History." In the window that appears, select all history to be deleted, right click and select "Delete."

Log in as guest so that you are browsing anonymously. Using a guest name might not totally shield you from invasions of privacy, but anyone looking at the browsing history would find out only that a "guest" had been browsing, not the specific person.

Purchase privacy software. Several products purport to erase all traces users leave while using a computer. Compare prices and features, and read reviews before purchasing.
