How to Troubleshoot Projection TV Problems

During the life cycle of a projection television, it may emit static noise, not turn on or not display all of its available channels. After around 8,000 hours of use, a dimmer than normal picture may appear. When problems occur from time to time, it does not have to signify that you have wasted dollars on your investment. A few troubleshooting procedures will help you squeeze a second life out of your projection television viewing entertainment.

      Check that the power cord is securely connected and the television is turned on. If your projection television still does not work, go to Step 2.

      Check that the cable is securely connected and is not over- or under-lapping other cords. Make sure you are using the standard 75-ohm cable. If your projection television still does not work, go to Step 3.

      Move appliances nearby further away from the television. If your projection television still does not work, go to Step 4.

      Replace the lamp if a lamp replacement message or lamp LED light starts to blink. The picture may look darker than usual. You may also hear a popping sound. All of these are signs that it is time to replace the lamp inside the projection television.

      Reset your projection television to its original factory settings. Turn on the television. Hold down the "Up" arrow button on the remote control and then press the "Power" button on the television at the same time. The television should cycle off and on again. Refer to your television manufacturer's user manual or cable television provider on how to reset your specific brand and model television.

  • Turn off nearby fluorescent lamps if your remote control fails to work or automatically cycles through channels. Fluorescent lamps give off infrared energy in high-frequency pulses that may obstruct the infrared signal of your remote control.

  • When you reset your television back to its original factory settings, all your customized settings will be disappear. You will need to input your "Favorites" list and "Parental Lock" settings again.
