How to Post Stuff on AOL

AOL Instant Messenger is a great way to connect with friends.

America Online (AOL) is a global Internet service media company. They are most popular for their AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) service that they provide to Internet users, free of charge. AIM can be downloaded from the web and used to exchange messages with family, friends and colleagues online. Users who would like to leave their AOL account on to receive messages when they are away post away messages on their buddy list. Posting an away message is simple and can be edited at any time by the account holder.

Instructions

AOL Installation

1. Navigate to the official AOL Instant Messenger website. Refer to the resources section for a link.

2. Click the yellow "Download AIM" to download the newest version of AIM 7.5. Note that by clicking the download button, you agree to all terms set forth by the AOL Company.

3. Select the "Run" button when prompted by the download pop-up box. Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the installation.

Posting Messages

1. Find AOL Instant Messenger in your list of computer programs or double-click the software icon on your desktop.

2. Enter your AOL Instant Messenger username and password. Click the "Sign In" button to bring up your buddy list.

3. Click the down arrow located next to your AOL username. In the drop-down menu, select the "Away" option presented by a yellow circle.

4. Select the white text box located below your yellow circle "Away" status. The box will have the text "What's Happening?" inside. Once clicked, the box will open and appear wider.

5. Write your away message inside the white text box. Add a picture to your away message if desired by clicking the "Add" camera icon. When finished, click the "Post" button to post your away message.

Saving Messages

1. Click on the "Options" link located on the top right section of your AOL buddy list.

2. Select the "Settings" option from the drop-down menu. As an alternative, click F7 on your keyboard to automatically bring up the "Settings" box.

3. Click "Buddy List" from the list of options located on the left side of the "Settings" box.

4. Click the "Manage Saved Away Messages" link located under the "Away Messages" section.

5. Enter the title of your away message. Insert an away message of your choice to be saved for future use. Click the "Save" button when finished.

6. Click the drop down arrow next to the yellow away circle on the top of your buddy list. From the drop-down menu, click the "Saved Away Messages" to view a list of your saved messages. Choose the away message of your choice to use.
