How to Solve Word Problems in Analytic Geometry
Word problems in mathematics are challenging problems that require an understanding of basic equations and vocabulary. They express mathematical information in real-life situations. Word problems are generally formatted into long paragraphs that include a large amount of information. Analytic geometry word problems focus on solving angles and figures. Working through these types of problems requires practice and is less challenging when you break down the problem before attempting to solve it.
Instructions
-
-
1
Read the problem completely before starting the problem. Word problems are lengthy and contain a lot of information.
-
2
Determine what the problem is asking. Because word problems contain an abundance of information, what the problem is asking can often be confusing.
-
-
3
Write out the numerical values and variables you have been given in the problem. Keep all values organized and labeled with the correct measurement units.
-
4
Sketch a figure of the information given in the word problem.
-
5
Form an equation to solve. Input known values, and solve for the answer.
-
6
Check your work to make sure the answer is logical.
