Faucet With Separate Sprayer Installation
Kitchen faucets with sprayers come in two styles: one with the sprayer mounted on the faucet base, and the second with a separate kitchen sprayer installed in the sink. Installing the latter involves a few additional steps but it is comparable in terms of time and skill level for installation. If you have a faucet with a separate sprayer, give yourself about two hours to install it. Always take the proper precautions when installing any type of faucet. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Shut off the water on both water pipes under the sink by rotating the valve handles clockwise until they stop turning. Disconnect the mounting hardware underneath the existing faucet with a basin wrench, if applicable, and disconnect both faucet supply lines with a regular wrench. Disconnect the sprayer hose from the bottom of the faucet and remove the faucet, and sprayer. Clean away the remaining plumber's putty with a rag or scraper.
-
2
Install the plastic guard on the bottom of the faucet base. This guard is shaped just like the base. Or, apply plumber's putty to the base of the faucet if there is no plastic guard. Mount the faucet on the sink top by sliding the faucet hoses through the two sink mounting holes. Position the faucet so the spout and diverter slide into the middle sink mounting hole.

3
Thread the faucet mounting washers and nuts onto the threaded shafts on the bottom of the faucet under the sink and turn the nuts clockwise with a basin wrench until tight. If this is a single handle faucet, there is only one threaded shaft; in a double handle faucet, there are two shafts.
-
4
Roll a short 4- to 5-inch length of plumber's putty in your hands and place it around the bottom of the faucet sprayer mounting guard, a round, plastic piece. Press this into the sink mounting hole on the far right, for the faucet sprayer.
-
5
Slide the faucet sprayer hose through the mounting guard. Underneath the sink, connect the end of the sprayer hose to the base of the faucet on the diverter rod, the short shaft that hangs down from the bottom of the faucet spout. Turn the connector clockwise with a wrench to tighten.
-
6
Connect both faucet supply hoses to the water pipes and then connect the other end of each supply hose to the connections at the base of the faucet. Tighten the connectors with a wrench. Turn on the water and use the faucet.
-
7
Clip the sprayer hose weight around the sprayer hose under the faucet by pressing the two sides of the weight together with your hands.
