How to Make Creative Ads With GIMP

Give printed materials such as fliers and signs a professional appearance when creating them as promotions for your business. The free application GIMP makes this possible, even if you are designing these items yourself. One method you can use to create a modern, creative-looking ad is to cut out images of your staff from photos and place them against a background gradient.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the images that you want to use on your computer, saving them all to the same folder.

    • 2

Open GIMP. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog that opens, enter the width and height you want for your document and click "OK."

    • 3

Select the "Blend" tool from the toolbar and, in the tool options, choose the gradient you want to apply. Drag on the canvas to apply the gradient.

    • 4

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that opens, locate and open one of the photos you loaded earlier.

    • 5

Select the "Path" tool from the toolbar and use it to draw a path around the person in the photo, dragging with the mouse to adjust the lines as you add the points. Click on "Make Selection" in the tool options. Select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Copy." Close this document and go back to the first one.

    • 6

Select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Paste." Place the pasted image where you want it in the design using the "Move" and "Scale" tools.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 4 to 6 to place all of the people in your ad. Save your work.
