Looms are ideal for making simple accessories such as beanie caps.

Knitting on a loom is an easy way to create tubular knitted fabrics for scarves, hats and bags, or pieced together as wearables, such as sweaters. When you are finishing your loom knitting, it is essential to select the best method of casting off the stitches. This is determined by what you intend to use the knitted fabric for. If you are making a scarf or beanie, take the ribbed stitches off the loom and run a piece of yarn through them to gather them tightly. If you need a flat piece of fabric, you will use a different technique.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the stitch from the peg immediately to the left of the peg where the yarn is attached.

    • 2

Place this stitch on the peg immediately to its left. There will now be two stitches on that peg.

    • 3

Lift the original stitch over the new stitch and drop it off the peg. You have now cast off one stitch.

    • 4

Continue to work clockwise around the loom, working one stitch at a time. Place each stitch on the peg immediately to its left and lifting the original stitch over it and drop it off the loom.

    • 5

Cut the yarn, leaving a 5-inch tail, when you have one stitch left on your final peg.

    • 6

Pull the yarn through the stitch. Your binding off is now complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a fine crochet hook or a large darning needle to help you move the stitches.
