How to Tweak Mozilla Firefox With Error 504

The "504 Gateway Timeout" error message occurs when your server doesn't receive a timely response from another server that you're trying to access to load a Web page or download files. The error message indicates that the other server is down or going through system maintenance. Since the problem originates with the other server, you have very few options for tweaking your Mozilla Firefox Web browser or, for that matter, any other Web browser, to troubleshoot the issue.

Instructions

1. Restart the Mozilla Firefox Web browser. Navigate back to the Web page that was generating the 504 Gateway Timeout error. Sometimes a simple restart can take care of this kind of error message.

2. Press "F5" key on your keyboard or keypad to refresh the Web page. Even though the error is outside of your control, many times the issue is temporary. Refreshing or revisiting the Web page may resolve the problem.

3. Come back at a later time. Sometimes you just have to be patient with the website. Give the developers of the website a few hours before you attempt to revisit it. This is especially true if the website is going through system maintenance.

4. Contact the webmaster if you still receive this error. Click the "Contact" link on the Web page and look for an email address or phone number for the Web designer. Call or send an email message to alert the Web designer of the problem.
