Instructions

    • 1

Dig a trench leading from the source of the waste water that extends 20 feet away from any habitable structure. Loosen the soil of the trench with a pickax, removing the loose dirt with a shovel. Dig the trench 8 inches wide and 8 inches deep, to ensure that the PVC pipe is completely hidden. Dig a hole in the ground at the end of the trench farthest away from the source of the waste water 4 feet deep, 4 feet long and 4 feet wide.

    • 2

Connect the 4-inch PVC pipe to the source of the drain waste water using glue. Extend the PVC pipe 20 feet by adding couplings and additional pipe until you reach the drain hole at the end of the trench. Allow the pipe to extend into the hole 6 inches.

    • 3

Cover the PVC pipe with loose dirt, beginning at the drain soil and stopping 12 inches from the end where it extends into the drain hole. Pack the soil so that it is slightly mounded. The soil will settle and level out over two to three weeks.

    • 4

Fill the drain pit half way up with gravel, and tamp the gravel with the handle of your shovel. Apply one layer of landscaping filter-fabric to the top of the gravel. This fabric will prevent soil from penetrating and clogging the gravel. Fill the hole to the bottom of the PVC pipe that extends into the drain hole.

Add one layer of filter fabric over the top of the gravel, and fill the gravel to within 4 inches of the top of the drain pit. Add one layer of filter fabric to the gravel, and cover the fabric with soil to hide the drain pit.
