Homemade pizza makes a greasy fast food into a delicious, just-the-way-you-like-it dish. Estimating the amount of dough you'll need is tricky, especially for the novice pizza-maker. Leftover pizza dough makes other baked goods and treats if you're still itching to keep baking. But for the pizza enthusiast, storing your leftover pizza dough lets you skip the rolling, kneading and rising portion of pizza-making next time you decide to invent a new pizza flavor.
Things You'll Need
- Freezer-ready plastic bag
Cut your leftover pizza dough into chunks large enough for one pizza, or however many pizzas you typically make at one time. Separate the dough before it starts rising to preserve the consistency during storage.
Place each section of pizza dough into a freezer-ready zip-seal plastic bag. Expel the excess air by pushing the bag upward from the bottom before closing the seal.
Write the storage date in permanent marker on the outside of the bags before storing them in the freezer. Properly stored pizza dough stays fresh for up to four months.
Thaw your dough at room temperature for two hours before using. Do not refreeze dough after it rises or your pizza crust will be flat, not doughy.
