How to Knit a Snuggie

Snuggies provide warmth on cold days while leaving your hands free for other activities. Forget the blanket and make a warm Snuggie to snuggle up with on winter days and nights. This Snuggie is designed as a one-size-fits-most pattern. Worked in a worsted weight yarn with a gauge of four stitches to the inch, the Snuggie knits up fast. A merino wool or wool blend yarn works best to hold in warmth and provide softness on the skin.

Instructions

    • 1

Cast on 60 stitches onto the longer circular needle. The Snuggie is knit flat but the long circular needle helps to control the stitches. Work in garter stitch for 4 inches. A garter stitch is worked by knitting every stitch on every row. End on a right-side row.

    • 2

On the wrong side, knit 10 stitches, place marker, knit two stitches, place marker, knit 36 stitches, place marker, knit two stitches, place marker then knit to the end.

    • 3

Switch to stockinette stitch. On the first row, knit to one stitch before the marker, knit into the front and back of the stitch then knit into the front and back of the stitch and slip the marker. For the next three sections, knit into the front and back of the first stitch, knit to one stitch before the marker, knit into the front and back of the stitch then slip the marker. For the last section, knit into the front and back of the first stitch, knit to the end. Purl one row. Repeat the last two rows until there are 96 stitches in the second section on the needle.

    • 4

Knit the first section and slip the marker. Thread a length of waste yarn on the yarn needle and slip the next 96 stitches onto the waste yarn for the sleeve to be worked later. Remove the next marker. Knit across the next section and slip the marker. Slip the next 96 stitches onto waste yarn to be worked later. Knit across the last section of stitches.

    • 5

Purl the next row. Knit the following row. This will keep the Snuggie in stockinette stitch. Continue working in stockinette stitch until the Snuggie measures two inches shorter than the desired length.

    • 6

Work in garter stitch, knitting every stitch on every round, for two inches. Bind off all stitches.

    • 7

Replace the first 96 stitches onto the shorter circular needle. Make sure the stitches aren't twisted, place a marker and join to work in the round. Work in stockinette stitch in the round, knit every stitch on every round, for two inches less than the desired length for the sleeve.

    • 8

Work in garter stitch in the round, knit one round then purl one round, for two inches. Bind off all stitches.

Repeat steps 7 and 8 for the other sleeve. Weave in all ends on the wrong side of the Snuggie.
