Don't ignore the importance of protecting your privacy on Facebook.

The more detail you put into your Facebook profile, the more sensitive information it is likely to contain. If your Facebook account is hacked, all of your personal information will be exposed. A hacker will also be able to see all of your wall posts and comments from your friends. Even if you know the hacker's IP address, Facebook doesn't have a "Report Hacker" feature. Instead, your only recourse is to notify Facebook that your account has been hacked and take steps on your own to secure your account.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to the Facebook Account Security page at Facebook.com/security.

    • 2

Click "My account is compromised." A link will appear prompting you to "secure it here" -- click on this link.

    • 3

Click "Continue." Your account will be locked for a few moments.

    • 4

Type in a new password when prompted to do so. A longer, more complex password is preferable; use a combination of letters, numbers and punctuation for a stronger password. Facebook will also prompt you to change your email password. Complete this step, making sure that the email password you choose is not the same as your Facebook password.

Change any other information as required, then review your input. Click "Continue" to proceed. Your account will be unlocked and should now be secure from whoever hacked it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change your Facebook password on a regular basis as a safety precaution.
