The primary use for the West Bend electronic timer 40031 is to monitor the length of time that you cook food. You can set the timer to keep track of the time of day as well. Setting the Time

Press the button labeled "Clock" for five seconds or until the display starts to flash.

Press the button labeled "Hour" repeatedly until you reach the correct hour of day. The hour display will allow you to set the time as a.m. or p.m. If you hold the button down, it will cause the number to advance rapidly. This holds true for the "Minute" and "Second" buttons as well.

Press the button labeled "Minute" repeatedly until you reach the correct minute of the day.

Press the button labeled "Second" repeatedly until you reach the correct second of the day.

Press the button labeled "Clock" to complete the time set and to stop the numbers from flashing.
Set Countdown Timer

Press the button labeled "Clear" to select the timer and to zero out the display.

Press the "Hour," "Minute" and "Second" buttons to set the desired length of time for the countdown. For example, if you need to cook food in the oven for one hour and 30 minutes, advance the "Hour" button to 01, the "Minute" button to 30 and the second button to 00.

Press the "Start/Stop/Memory" button to begin the countdown timer. Press the "Start/Stop/Memory" a second time if you must interrupt the timer. This will stop the timer without resetting it. When you are ready to restart the timer, press the button again. If you want to stop the timer and reset to a different time, press the "Start/Stop/Memory" button and then press the button labeled "Clear."
Recall Previous Timer

Press the "Start/Stop/Memory" button once to pause the timer.

Press "Start/Stop/Memory" button twice rapidly to recall the previous timer setting.

Press "Start/Stop/Memory" once to restart the timer from the recalled setting. If you choose not to use the recalled setting, press the, "Clear" button and set a new time.
Set up and Use Stopwatch

Press the button labeled "Start/Stop/Memory" to start the stopwatch.

Press the button labeled "Start/Stop/Memory" a second time to pause the stopwatch. If you need to resume the stopwatch, press the button again. Repeat this as many times as you need to start and stop the stopwatch.

Clear the stored time on the stopwatch by pressing the "Start/Stop/Memory" button and then by pressing the "Clear" button.
