How to Use Autotune VST to Deepen the Voice

The musician T-Pain popularized the use of Auto-Tune in hip-hop.

The Antares Auto-Tune VST plugin alters the pitch of a recording in real-time. Although Auto-Tune is designed to nudge a singer's vocals into key by making subtle pitch corrections, it can also create extreme vocal effects by applying heavy pitch shifting. Auto-Tune 7 includes a "Transpose" control that can deepen the pitch of your voice by up to an octave, as well as a "Formant" feature that processes your voice's incidental frequencies, making the end result sound more realistic.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your digital audio workstation. Open the voice recording that you want to deepen.

    • 2

Drag and drop Auto-Tune from the program's VST plugins section onto the audio file. Click the "Formant" button in Auto-Tune to enable high-quality pitch-shifting.

    • 3

Click and drag the "Transpose" knob to the left. The lower the "Transpose" setting, the deeper your voice sounds.

    • 4

Click "Play" in your digital audio workstation to listen to your deepened voice.
