How to Make Your Own Gray Cover Up
Gray hair plagues most people as they age. You don't have to let it get you down. Cover it up. The best way to do this is to color your hair, but there are times when the gray will sneak up on you before you can get back to the salon. Make your own gray cover up with mascara. Dark haired people can use regular mascara to mask the gray; blondes or redheads may find a special hair mascara in beauty supply stores. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Brown, brown/black or black lash mascara or blonde or copper hair mascara

Go to the drug or beauty supply store.

Select a lash mascara in a complimentary shade. The brown color is good for light to medium brown hair. The brown/black shade works well for dark brown hues while the black will cover gray in black hair. If your hair is blonde or red, select a hair mascara in an appropriate shade. Colors such as champagne, bronze, and copper will work best.

Style your hair as usual. Make sure it is completely dry.

Use the mascara wand to swipe color onto the section of hair that needs to be covered.

For a larger area of hair, rub the wand in between your thumb and forefinger. Pick up a section of hair, pinch the hair with the mascara colored fingers and slide your fingers down the section of hair.

Let the mascara dry for 5 minutes. After it has dried, lightly brush through the section you covered up. This will help it look more natural.

Tips & Warnings
If you have messed up, wash the mascara out and start again. It may take a couple of applications before you achieve the perfect look. Add body to your hairstyle. Gray hairs are more noticeable in hair that sits flat upon the head.
