How to Calculate the Area From a JPG
JPG or JPEG images are in a bitmap format, creating digital representations of things by means of a rectangular array of pixels. Because of this simple rectangular shape, calculating the area is easy. The area of any JPG image, measured in pixels, also happens to be the total number of pixels contained within it.

1
Open the JPG image in your image-editing software and determine its dimensions. Photoshop displays the width and height of the image at the bottom of its window, while the GIMP offers that information in the "Image ' Image Properties" dialog.
-
2
Convert the dimensions to inches, if you want, by dividing them by the resolution of your computer screen. If you prefer to find the area in pixels, rather than square inches, skip this step.

3
Multiply the width by the height to find the area. A 640 by 480 pixel image contains a total of 307,200 pixels, while an 8 1/2-by-11-inch image has an area of 93 1/2 square inches.
