How to Reduce Buffer Size

When streaming videos and other media content in Windows Media Player, the buffer size in the duration that the program will buffer the media file before it begins playing. You can reduce this time to allow the media file to begin playing quicker. However, reducing this time could result in the media file jumping or stopping altogether as it may not have sufficiently buffered enough before playing.

      Click on the "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click on the Windows Media Player icon to load it.

      Click on the "Rip" tab at the top of the window.

      Click on the "More Options" button. This will load up an options window.

      Click on the "Performance" tab in the window and locate "Buffer X seconds of content." You will find this in the "Network Buffering" section.

      Enter a number into the box that is lower than the one currently present. This will reduce the buffer size and time of the media file. Click on the "OK" button to save the changes.
