How to Add a Search Box to My Navigation Bar on Blogger

If you have a blog on Google's Blogger service with a great deal of content, you may need to implement something other than post categories for your readers to find the content that interests them. A reader may quickly grow frustrated, browsing through a category that contains hundreds of posts if she only wants to find the posts containing one keyword. Blogger allows you to add widgets to various sections of your blog to change the experience that your readers have when viewing it. Add a search box to one widget area to give readers a way to find content quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate in your Web browser to blogger.com, and log in with your Google account credentials if prompted.

    • 2

Click the "Design" link under the name of the blog that you want to add a search box to. This displays the design template for your blog.

    • 3

Click any of the "Add a Gadget" links on the page. The link that you click determines the location in which the search box will appear within your blog's design template. This displays a new window titled "Add a Gadget."

    • 4

Click the "Basics" link in the upper left corner of the window.

    • 5

Click the plus sign next to the "Search Box" widget. This brings you to the "Configure Search Box" page.

    • 6

Remove the checks from the boxes labeled "Linked From Here" and "The Web" if you only want the search box to search your own blog.

    • 7

Click the "Save" button to add the search box to your blog.
