How to Join a Skype Public Chat

If you're a Skype user with a version earlier than Skype 4.0, you can engage in what is called a "Public Chat." These chats allow Skype users to type to and vocally chat with other users without having to add anyone extra to their contacts list. Public Chats are accessed through snippets (links) on websites that host Skype Public Chats for users.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Skype application on your PC.

    • 2

Sign in to your Skype account if you're asked to do so.

    • 3

Visit a Web page with a snippet link to the Skype Public Chat you want to join.

    • 4

Click the snippet to join the public chat room. The public room will automatically open on Skype.

    • 5

Leave the public chat room by clicking the "Leave" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • You must use a Skype version earlier than 4.0 to use the Public Chat feature, which was phased out in later versions.
