How to Submit a GIF on Tumblr
The Tumblr website allows users to set up a microblog where they can enter text, upload photos, provide links and post videos. The Tumblr photo option accepts images from almost any format, but not all GIF files display properly. GIF files can contain multiple images in a single file, allowing for a crude form of animation. To display these files correctly on Tumblr, you will need to create a text post and create a link to the image online.

Upload the animated GIF to an image-hosting website like TinyPic or ImageShack. TinyPic may be preferable as you do not need an account to upload an animated GIF. Click the "Browse" button on the image hosting website to open a window displaying files on your computer. Navigate to the GIF file that you want to use and click "Open." Click "Upload" to send the GIF to the hosting site. An image of the GIF appears on the screen.

Right-click the image on the image hosting site and choose "Copy Image Location" from the pop-up menu.

Direct your Web browser to the Tumblr website. Enter your e-mail address and password, then click "Log in" to access your Tumblr page.

Click the "Text" icon at the top of your screen to load the text interface. Find the "HTML" button on the right end of the ribbon above the text box and click it. A large white page will open up.

Type in the following code, without quotes: "<p><img src=""/></p>". Place your cursor between the two double quotes in the code and press "Ctrl" and "V" simultaneously to paste your URL into the code. Click "Update" at the bottom of the window to exit the HTML editor.

Click "Create Post" to post the animated GIF image to your Tumblr account. Click on the grey square in your post to start the GIF animation.
