Instructions

  1. Authentic Comm Badge

    • 1

Cut a purple felt circle to a size of 2-to-3-inches in diameter. Cut a pink felt circle 1/2-inch smaller in diameter than the purple felt circle and glue the pink circle in the center of the purple circle.

    • 2

Cut a triangle out of silver felt that extends beyond the largest of the two circles. Cut a small section from the base of the silver triangle that resembles the shape of an arrowhead.

    • 3

Arrange the felt triangle in the center of the two circles that you glued together so it extends beyond their edges and glue the triangle to the two circles.

    • 4

Attach the comm badge to the costume that you plan to wear.

Protect the Galaxy with a Phaser

    • 5

Purchase an old television remote control if you do not have one to use. Check thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales for a remote control that looks as though it was designed and manufactured in the 1980s.

    • 6

Create the handle of your phaser by cutting slots at the end of the toilet paper roll and bending them outward so that the toilet paper roll sits flat against the bottom of the remote control. Glue the toilet paper roll to the center of the bottom of the remote control.

    • 7

Paint the remote control and the toilet paper roll handle gray.

    • 8

Attach a laser pointer to the side of the remote control with hot glue. Position the pointer so the on/off switch is easily accessible. Point the laser pointer forward and press the switch to make it appear that your phaser is shooting laser beams.

    Communicate

    • 9

Use an older flip phone that you have saved or purchase one from a thrift store, flea market or yard sale.

    • 10

Trace an outline of the closed flip phone onto a 1-inch thick block of wood and cut the block of wood based on that outline so it is the same length and width as the flip phone. Glue the flip phone to the block of wood.

    • 11

Paint the wood block and phone gold with spray paint. Rough up the plastic on the phone with sandpaper before painting so the paint sticks better.

    • 12

Paint a grill pattern on the front of the wooden block that you attached to the cell phone. Use black model paint for the wooden block and to paint the grill pattern on the top of the folding cell phone. Paint a series of black dots to replicate the grill pattern of the communicator that was used in the "Star Trek" television show. Communicators looked different over the years and some used a grill pattern in the shape of a triangle.
