How to Cast a Circle in Salt
In many spiritual traditions, a circle is used as a sacred space. The space within the circle is considered protected from harmful energies. It is also considered closed in the sense that energy built within the circle stays concentrated within the circle until the energy is released. One way to cast a circle is to use salt, as in spiritual traditions salt has long been considered a purifying and energy-charging substance that repels negative energy.

1
Decide how large you wish the circle to be. This is dependent upon factors such as how many people will be in the circle and the space you have available to work within. Individual protective circles are usually at least as wide as you are tall. If you are six feet tall, therefore, the circle will be at least six feet across.
-
2
Lay down string or something similar to visually mark the perimeter of the circle. This way you will know exactly where to sprinkle the salt.

3
Gather all items you wish to have in the circle with you, so once the circle is cast you don't have to interrupt your ceremony and leave it. This may include a ceremonial chalice and any other items you plan to use during the rite.

4
Place the salt in a bowl. Choose a cardinal direction to begin at. The direction you choose will depend on your personal spirituality. Whether you walk clockwise or counterclockwise will also depend on your particular branch of spirituality---there are no hard, fast rules that apply across the board.
-
5
Start sprinkling the salt evenly around the perimeter, stopping only when you get to the place you started.
