How to Wrap an Irregular Rectangular Box

Wrap your rectangular gift with careful planning.

If you are planning a party or celebration and you have an awkwardly shaped box to wrap, it can be difficult to wrap it in an attractive way. Trying to wrap an irregularly shaped rectangular box can end in gift-wrapping disaster if you are not prepared. Luckily, if you take your time and plan properly, you can learn to wrap irregular, rectangular boxes and create beautifully wrapped gifts.

Things You'll Need

• Measuring tape
• Clear tape

Instructions

1. Measure around the length and width of the box. Wrap the measuring tape around the box both ways to determine how much paper needs to be used.

2. Cut a sheet of wrapping paper according to your width and length measurements, with 1 inch added to the width measurement. You will need to do some trimming on the length, but it is better to have excess paper on the ends than not enough paper.

3. Place the box directly in the center of the blank side of the wrapping paper.

4. Bring the opposite edges of the wrapping paper, along the width of the box, together and lay them flat onto the box, with one paper edge slightly overlapping the other.

5. Apply 1-inch strips of clear tape along the overlapping edge to keep it in place. Place the strips about 3 inches apart and lay them along the seam, rather than across it.

6. Pinch the paper over the ends of the box and hold them together to cut off the excess on the ends.

7. Bring the sides of the paper around one end together and tape them down, leaving the top and bottom edges of the paper to form triangles. Do the same on the other end of the box.

8. Tape down the top triangular flap over the end of the box and tape the bottom triangular flap over it. Do this on both sides.
