Instructions

    • 1

Cut a large circular hole in the top of the pumpkin around the stem. This will serve as a lid for your pumpkin, allowing you to clean out the insides of the pumpkin and place a candle in the pumpkin.

    • 2

Using your large spoon, scoop the pumpkin seeds and guts out of the pumpkin. Gently scrape the insides of your pumpkin to thoroughly remove all of the insides, but try not to cut into or damage the rind of the pumpkin. The rind is important since the pumpkin will be hollow; it is the only remaining structure left of the pumpkin and you will need to carve this area, so you want it to be strong and firm.

    • 3

Draw sketches of Batman onto notebook paper and choose your favorite design. Or you can print a picture of Batman from the Internet or pick a drawing of Batman from a child's coloring book.

    • 4

Trace the design onto your pumpkin. The best way to trace the design onto your pumpkin is by cutting the outline of Batman from the drawing that you chose. Use a pencil to outline the pattern onto your pumpkin and press lightly so that if you make a mistake, it's not noticeably visible.

    • 5

With your carving knife, begin to carefully cut into the pattern that you will be carving for the Batman design. Take your time so that you do not cut into the wrong parts of the pattern, and make sure that you can see the outline. If at any point you cannot see the outline that you traced onto the pumpkin, stop and retrace the outline so that you do not make any mistakes.
