While smoking is not a good habit to start, for some, it is an enjoying habit. Smoking pipes have existed since ancient times. Native Americans used smoke pipes for medicinal purposes. (See References 1) Smoking pipes are made from wood and other materials. The easiest way to make a smoking pipe is using a corn cob. Eat a delicious corn on the cob and save the core of it to make your own smoke pipe.

Things You'll Need

  • Corn cob
  • Steak knife
  • Vice-grip
  • Power drill
  • ½-inch drill bit
  • 1/8-inch drill bit
  • 1/16-inch drill bit
  • 1/8-inch wood dowel (length of 3 inches)

Instructions

    • 1

      Find a corn cob a core with a diameter of at least 1 inch. Dry the core for 1 day.

      Cut the sides of the corn cob until only the core remains. Use a steak knife. Cut the core of the corn to the length of 2 inches. Use a steak knife.

      Place the core into a vice-grip. Drill a hole with a half-inch diameter and a depth of ½-inch. Use a power drill and half-inch drill bit.

      Drill a 1/8-inch hole in the side of the corn cob. The 1/8-inch hole should connect to the ½-inch hole. Use a power drill and 1/8-inch drill bit.

      Cut a 1/8-inch wood dowel to the length of 3 inches. Use a table saw. Drill a 1/16-inch hole into the center of the wood dowel. Use a power drill and 1/16-inch drill bit.

      Place the wood dowel into the hole of the core of the corn cob. Place tobacco inside the half-inch hole of the core. Light the tobacco and enjoy your new smoke pipe.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear protective gloves, goggles and mask when handling a power saw and drill.
