How to Increase a Finished Crochet Size
Crochet creates a thick, dense fabric that may not have enough stretch. You can increase the size of a finished crochet project by "blocking" it, which relaxes the fibers and loosens the stitches. Blocking serves two purposes: it allows you to reshape your crochet and give your work a bath at the same time. If you're not blocking your crochet, you may not be getting the best possible drape of the fabric.

1
Add a capful of baby shampoo or other conditioner-free shampoo to a sink full of cold water. Protein shampoos will help soften animal fibers like wool and alpaca.
-
2
Soak your crochet for 30 minutes, and then rinse out the suds under a stream of cold water.
-
-
3
Roll your crochet in a large towel to press out as much of the water as possible. Do not wring.
-
4
Spread another towel on a bed or pillow and lay the damp crochet on top of it.
-
5
Stretch the crochet around its perimeter to increase its size. Insert a pin every 1 to 2 inches to hold the shape.
-
6
Allow your crochet to air dry. Remove the pins when it is fully dry; it will retain its new shape.
