How to Draw a 3-D Pumpkin Out of Paper
Whether doodling, creating a hand-drawn invitation for a Halloween party or sketching a rough draft of a future craft or painting project, learning to draw a pumpkin that appears three-dimensional assists in your goal. A pumpkin looks similar to a circle and depending on your tastes, preferences and use, including facial features transforms the pumpkin into a festive jack-o'-lantern sketch. Use colored pencils or crayons to add color or transfer the drawing to a canvas for painting.

Draw a 2-inch circle lightly in the center of your paper and sketch a vertical, 2-inch straight line through the approximate center of the circle. These lines will be erased later, so don't press hard enough to create a crease in the paper or with enough lead that the lines can't be erased cleanly.

Draw ribbed lines across the top and bottom of the circle, using the circle as a guide, because pumpkins aren't completely round. The arced lines look like bumps and extend the concave bottom section of each bump with a slightly arced line or pleat, so make the pumpkin ridges a bit more pronounced.

Draw a curly or arced stem using the vertical guide line in the center of the pumpkin. Draw an oval at the top and connect the two curly or arced lines to the top of the pumpkin bumps to make it look three-dimensional.

Erase all guidelines and color the pumpkin with colored pencils. Shade the top of the pumpkin using a lighter orange color, working toward the bottom of the pumpkin with a darker shade of orange to make it appear like the sun is beating down on the top of the pumpkin. Repeat the same idea with a green stem from top to bottom. Shade around the bottom, outside of the pumpkin using a light black or gray color as a shadow.

Add vines and leaves to the pumpkin stem, or underneath the pumpkin for additional decor.
