How to Embed Skype Within HTML

Many Skype lovers use their accounts in lieu of a traditional phone. If you want to advertise your Skype contact info on your website in an eye-catching way, you may have wondered if Skype can be embedded directly into the site itself. While you cannot embed a Skype client, what you can embed is a Skype button. Anyone who has Skype on her own computer can click on an embedded Skype button to instantly begin a call.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Skype's "Get A Skype Button" page. Type your Skype user name into the designated text field.

    • 2

Select the Skype button that best fits with your website's overall design. There are six different styles of Skype buttons available.

    • 3

Highlight and copy all the code within the "Copy & Paste This Code" field. By default, this field will have the "Web HTML" option selected. Make sure not to leave any characters out when highlighting the code.

    • 4

Open your HTML sheet or HTML-enabled blog editor. Paste the Skype button code into your desired location within the body of the sheet. Save your changes and load your website in a separate browser tab to get a look at your new button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before you embed any sort of code into existing HTML, it is wise to copy-and-paste your HTML into a text editor, such as Notepad. This way, if something goes wrong, you can easily swap the code back to its original configuration.
