How to Customize Enclosed Toy Haulers & Race Trailers

How to Customize Enclosed Toy Haulers & Race Trailers thumbnail
Your day at the track is more fun with a customized toy hauler trailer.

Enclosed toy haulers and vehicle trailers are great transportation for classic vehicles, race cars and even motorcycles or ATVs. One thing that they are lacking, however, is any sort of secure storage for items like motor oil and filters, tools or conveniences. Fortunately, most vehicle trailers have ample room to add these amenities while still providing plenty of room for the vehicle itself. Use shelves purchased from automotive parts stores and an inexpensive tool chest to give your trailer the storage you need.

Things You'll Need

  • Plywood sheets
  • Three-tier stacking tool chest
  • Automotive trailer shelves
  • Portable solar panel kit
  • Dorm refrigerator
  • Bolts
  • Screws
  • Angle brackets

Instructions

    • 1

Use construction adhesive and bolts to install the plywood sheets to the front wall of the toy hauler trailer. The plywood is how you will install the shelves and the tool box. The trailer's metal support brackets will hold a plywood sheet for attaching the shelves.

    • 2

Mount the tool box in the middle of the front of the trailer using angle brackets and bolts to hold the entire box in place. If the tool box is multiple levels, you should attach each box to the plywood board with two angle brackets, at least one on each side. Mounting the tool box to the plywood wall prevents it from moving around the trailer, causing damage when in transit.

    • 3

Mount a series of metal shelves on the left and right side of the tool box. Use automotive trailer shelves because they have deep pockets.

    • 4

Mount a dorm-sized refrigerator on the side of the tool box with angle brackets securing it to the plywood wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a solar panel kit that includes all the necessary parts for the installation and produces enough power for the refrigerator.

  • Standard shelving cannot be used because when the trailer is in motion, the items on the shelves will slide around.
