How Can I Tell How Full My Kindle Is?

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader has several gigabytes of internal storage space -- enough to hold thousands of books. If you listen to audiobooks on your Kindle, though, you may find that the storage space of the device begins to run low more quickly than it would with text-only books. If you believe that you may be running out of space, check the available room on your Kindle to determine whether you might need to remove some content.

Instructions

  1. On the Kindle

    • 1

Push the "Home" button in the middle of the right side of the Kindle.

    • 2

Push the "Menu" button in the lower right corner of the device.

    • 3

Examine the upper left corner of the screen. This area of the screen displays the amount of free space remaining on the Kindle, such as "1500 MB free."

    On Your Computer

    • 4

Connect one end of the Kindle's USB cable to the port on the bottom of the device. Connect the other end to one of your computer's USB ports. Wait a moment for the computer to detect your Kindle.

    • 5

Open the Start menu and click "Computer." This screen now displays an icon labeled "Kindle."

    • 6

Right-click the "Kindle" icon. Then click "Properties."

    • 7

Click the "General" tab at the top of the new window. This screen displays numbers and a pie chart showing the amount of used and free space on your Kindle.
