Curtain Pole Installation

Curtain Pole Installation thumbnail
Curtain poles allow more curtain arrangement flexibility than curtain rods do.

Curtains block out the light and provide privacy, but they are also a significant decorative element in a room acting as the frame to the window and its view beyond. If your window doesn't have an attractive view, sheer curtains serve an even more important function; they can obscure the view while still letting light into the house. Different types of curtains require different hanging supports. Some drapes require traverse rods, but pocket curtains, with the loop built into the top of the curtain, need pole mounts.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the curtain at various heights to determine the height of placement. This is easier if you have a helper to hold the rod while you stand back and look. When you find the position you like best, make a small mark on the wall with a pencil and measure the distance to the floor.

    • 2

Hold the rod support bracket in place on the wall. Use the level to ensure that the bracket is vertical and mark the mounting holes on the wall or window casement.

    • 3

Tap the awl with the hammer in the center of each screw hole in the pole support, if installing the pole on the window casement. Do the same if you locate a stud in the wall where you're installing the support. Place the screw in the pilot depression and screw in the rod support.

Use the awl to tap a hole all the way through the drywall if not mounting over the casement or a wall stud. Make the hole just wide enough to allow the wall anchor to be inserted, tapping the anchor into place with a hammer, if necessary. Repeat to install the second pole support.

    • 5

Slide the pocket curtain over the pole and into the center. Place the pole into the brackets and arrange the curtain to provide a pleasing appearance.
