How to Display the Flag in the State of Oregon
The United States flag is considered to be a living symbol of the country. Flag etiquette outlines rules and regulations that govern how to properly care for, display and retire the U.S. flag. These same guidelines also outline the proper way to display state flags, such as the Oregon state flag. You can show due respect to the Oregon state flag by learning how to properly display it.

1
Display the Oregon state flag so the words "State of Oregon" are at the top of the flag when displaying the flag horizontally. When displaying the flag vertically, turn the flag counterclockwise 90 degrees so the words "State of Oregon" are on the observer's left and the date "1959" in on the right.
-
2
Display the Oregon state flag at the highest point on a flagpole unless it is displayed with the United States flag. When the Oregon state flag is displayed on the same flagpole as the U.S. flag, display the Oregon state flag beneath the U.S. flag. The Oregon state flag is only to be flown at half-staff on national days of mourning or remembrance or unless approved by local government officials.

-
3
Display the Oregon state flag to the far left of observers unless it is also displayed with the United States flag. When more than one flag is displayed, flags are to be ranked by importance from the observer's left to right. The U.S. flag always has the place of honor at the far left, followed by the flag of the host state, which in this case is the Oregon state flag. Other state flags follow the Oregon state flag in alphabetical order or the order each state was ratified into the Union.
-
4
Display the Oregon state flag high enough that it does not touch the ground. The state flag should not touch anything situated under it, such as the ground, shrubbery or water.
-
5
Display the Oregon state flag after sunrise and lower it before sunset, unless it is illuminated at night with proper lighting. Also, lower the flag in inclement weather, unless the flag is an all-weather flag.
