How to Setup iMap With Yahoo in Thunderbird

If you have a Yahoo web-based email account and use the popular Mozilla Thunderbird email client, you can configure Thunderbird to retrieve your Yahoo email messages and store them on your local computer. Yahoo offers customers of its free email service Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) access, which allows the use of email clients with Yahoo mail. Mozilla Thunderbird includes an email account setup wizard that automates the process of setting up Yahoo IMAP access.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the page and select "Account Settings."

    • 2

Click the "Account Actions" drop-down menu on the bottom-left side of the pop-up window and select "Add Mail Account."

    • 3

Enter your name, Yahoo email address and Yahoo account password into the boxes and click "Continue." Thunderbird will find the possible Yahoo server settings for your account.

    • 4

Click the radio button next to "IMAP" in the middle of the Mail Account Setup window and click the "Create Account" button at the bottom of the window. Thunderbird will verify your account username and password and then download messages off the Yahoo server.
