How to Make a Braided Bookmark
A braided bookmark makes a thoughtful gift for your favorite book lover. At the end of the bookmark, attach a dangle made of beads, gemstones or charms to give it extra flair. Visit your local craft shop to purchase cord and any embellishments. Making a braided bookmark requires very little skill and only a few supplies. Insert the bookmark into a copy of your friend's favorite book to further personalize the gift.
Things You'll Need
- Assorted waxed cotton cord
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- Epoxy
- Cord crimp end
- Charm
- Jump ring
- Chain-nosed pliers

Measure and cut nine pieces of cord in assorted colors to the appropriate length.

Gather the cords together evenly and tie a knot at one end.

Place a dab of the epoxy on the knotted end of the cords.

Slide the knotted end of the cords into the cord crimp end.

Press the cord crimp end closed with the chain-nosed pliers.

Let the epoxy dry according to the manufacturer's directions. Pull gently on the cords to test the adhesive. If they come apart from the cord crimp end, reapply the epoxy and let dry.

Divide the cords into three sections and braid them together.

Tie a knot at the end of the braided cords.

Dab the end of the braid with the epoxy.

Slide the knotted end of the cords into the cord crimp end.

Press the crimp end closed with the chain-nosed pliers.

Let the epoxy dry. Pull gently on the cords to test the adhesive. If they come apart from the cord crimp end, reapply the epoxy and let dry.

Hold the jump ring with your fingers and twist it to the side with the chain-nosed pliers to open it.

Slide the jump ring onto one of the cord crimp ends and add the charm. Close the jump ring.
