How to Edit Materials in Wings 3D

3D models have many uses in film, print and video games. The meshes for these models have to be created in 3D modeling applications. In addition to the meshes, it is necessary to assign materials to a mesh before it can be rendered. Different sections of the same mesh might have different materials. If you are working in Wings 3D and want to assign and edit materials, the process is quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Wings 3D. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open a model you want to edit the materials on.

    • 2

Select "Windows" from the menu and choose "Outliner." In the panel that opens, right-click and choose "Material." In the dialog, name the material and click "OK." In the next dialog, create the material by selecting the "Diffuse, Ambient, Specular and Emission" colors. Then adjust the sliders for these colors as well as the "Opacity" and "Shininess" until you like the preview. Click "OK."

Click on the model to select the polygons you want to apply the materials to. These could be polygons that already have materials assigned, in which case that material will be replaced. Then right-click on the selection and from the list choose the material you created.
