How to Fix Drawings With GIMP

Many people like to doodle and draw, but don't necessarily have the hand and eye coordination to do professional looking work. If you have a fondness for doing line drawings, but have a hard time getting your art to turn out the way you want, you can use the tools of the freeware application GIMP to fix you drawings.

Instructions

    • 1

Scan your drawing into your computer and save it as a JPEG.

    • 2

Start GIMP by selecting "File" from the menu, then "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open the drawing you loaded.

    • 3

Go to the "Layers" panel and click on the "New Layer" button at the bottom. Then select the "Path" tool from the toolbar.

    • 4

Add points using the path tool to trace over one of the lines in your drawing. You can make the curves smoother than the original by dragging the mouse as you add points to adjust the lines between the points. This process also allows you to close any gaps there may be in the drawing.

    • 5

Go to the tool options panel and click on "Stroke Path." In the dialog, set the width of the line you want and click "Stroke." Repeat this process to redo all the lines in your drawing.

    • 6

Go to the "Layers" panel and delete the background layer. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save." In the dialog, rename the file and save it as a JPEG.
