      Research the nursing field. Read trade journals and magazines. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is a good starting point.Talk to a few nurses. Choose at least two main topics to discuss based on your research. Examples of main topics to discuss: Preparing for Nursing School, Getting into Nursing School, Nursing School and Beyond, Advance Practice Nursing, Nursing Research Careers. Many topics are available.

      Begin preparing the outline. Format the outline with an introduction, and the two main topics you've chosen to discuss. Use Roman numerals I, II, III and IV. Next to each numeral write the words, "Introduction," "Main Topic 1," "Main Topic 2" and "Conclusion," respectively. If you decide to include more than two, add another main topic heading. Underneath each main topic, list the subtopics using capital letters "A" "B" and so on. Try to keep it at three or less. Subtopics refer to points you'll discuss about each main topic. For example, if one of the main topics of your paper is "Getting into Nursing School," health care experience and nursing applications are possible subtopics.

      List key points under each subtopic. Key points are important details about the subtopic. List the key points on the outline with numbers "1," "2" and so on. For example, if your subtopic heading is "Health Care Experience," nursing assistant is a key point to include.

      Plan your conclusion and introduction. The introduction should generally include a statement of the overall topic along with a discussion about the main topics covered. The conclusion briefly summarizes, touching on the most essential points in the body. Write out the introduction and conclusion in paragraph form.
