YouTube is the birthplace of viral video. You can share a YouTube video in a PowerPoint presentation to show a popular video clip to your audience. You can also publish your presentation to YouTube to allow people to see what you've created. So, maybe your next PowerPoint presentation will be a viral hit on YouTube. Saving a PowerPoint to YouTube requires the free Windows Live Movie Maker software and a YouTube account.

  1. Upload to YouTube

      Click on the "File" tab in PowerPoint and then click "Save and Share" and then click "Create a Video." Chose the options for the video from the drop-down menus. Click "Create Video." Type a name for the video and then click "Save."

      Open Windows Live Movie Maker and click on the "Add Videos and Photos" button on the "Home" tab. Browse to the WMV file saved by PowerPoint. Select it and click "Open."

      Click on the "YouTube" button in the "Share" section of the "Home" tab in Windows Live Movie Maker. Log in to your YouTube account. Type a title for the video of your presentation. Select a category and any tags you want and then click "Publish."

    Embed a YouTube Video

      Click on the "Insert" tab in PowerPoint. Click on the arrow under "Video" and then click "Video from Website."

      Browse to the YouTube video you want to embed in your PowerPoint presentation. Click on the "Share" button under the video and then click "Embed." Click the check box next to "Use Old Embed Code" Highlight the code in the box and press "Ctrl+C" to copy it.

      Return to PowerPoint and click in the text box in the "Video from Website" dialog box and press "Ctrl+V" to paste in the embed code. Click "Insert." The video will be inserted in on that PowerPoint slide.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your computer must have an active Internet connection to play the YouTube videos in a presentation. Check the presentation location to make sure you'll have access.
