Java developers can rest easy, since the JDK is built into Mac OS X

The Java Development Kit, or JDK, has been included as a core technology of Mac OS X since its introduction in 2001. Developers who use the Java environment to create multiplatform applications and services can find those files within the System "Library" folder, and can monitor Java and make systemwide changes in a few other locations, including the Utilities folder. To make Java development even easier, Apple distributes Java updates as a part of its official "Software Update" application.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Computer" from the "Go" menu in the Finder.

    • 2

Open your hard drive, which is named "Macintosh HD" by default.

    • 3

Open the "Library" folder, navigate to the "Java" folder, and find the Java Development Kit files located inside.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit the Utilities folder to change systemwide Java settings or to discern which version of Java you are running. To do this, select "Applications" from the Finder's "Go" menu, open the "Utilities folder, and open "Java Preferences"
